Sale Chair Message
Looking back through the years of catalogues that have been published
has been such a delight. There are names I’ve never met, names that have
come and gone and names that are still being printed this year. To me that
is a true testament to what this sale has always been about. Like minded
breeders, coming together to sell their horses for the best dollar possible.
Many things have changed over the years, and yet many things have stayed
the same, perhaps updated but the same nonetheless. One of those things
is the volunteer base that helps this sale become a possibility. Over the
course of 30 years there have been hundreds of volunteers that have done
their small portion to make this sale a success. In gate, barn caller, stabling
maps, braiders, handlers, equipment movers, jump chute setting, decorating
facilities, proof readers, bid takers, gift givers, bar tenders, and even a door
guard to keep the office sane many moons ago, when exited buyers were
ready to pay! There are SO many more jobs that are too numerous to list,
and at the core are volunteers that have been excited to see where we
could go and helped pave the way. THANK YOU, those are the only words,
small as they are, that are fitting 30 years on. This sale would not be what
it is today without every single one of you that had a hand in executing this
sale. The team this year has been nostalgic as things ramp up, and the thing
we keep coming back to is how fantastic the volunteers have always been.
Like minded people, carving a small path, with small reach 30 years ago, to
like minded people breaking open doors being the longest running European
style auction in North America!
The bloodlines 30 years ago were some of the most interesting avail
able in this small province and here we are again with some of the most exciting
pedigrees. The bloodlines this year, however, are internationally known
and some of the most sought after in the Olympic disciplines. There are
horses for professionals, amateurs, and juniors alike, along with some top
broodmares if that is what you fancy!
This year has been a mix of emotions regarding the sale, melancholy for the
way it used to be. Parading horses on the gala evening, marching across a
small town street sometimes in parkas and toques, other times in t shirt’s
wishing for shorts. And excitement to see where the next 30 years will
take us! Other than the first sales in Edmonton, I have attended every sale,
and helped in some form. Many jobs I have completed, never did I think I~ 9 ~
would get to be co chair this many years on! We are excited for this year’s
catalogue, we are excited to see where we can go, and we are always
excited to meet new people along the way!
